Deal of the Day

While my Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins are in the oven (smelling delicious!) and my newest project, a memory box for the baby, is drying from the first coat of white paint, I thought I would share my latest Deal of the Day. 

I picked up this package of 8 inch paper stencils from Plaid for only $0.97 at Michaels! Includes all letters of the alphabet! The package shows them used on fabric pillows but I'll probably try them out on some wood panels that I found in the garage, to make something for the nursery. I'm hoping to begin working on it this week...

Deal of the Day

I don't think it's any secret that I love a good deal but even more so when it's of the crafting variety. Michaels recently had a clearance bin with cross stitch projects and I discovered this project for only $1.97!

At the time, I wasn't pregnant yet but how could I pass it up? I figured I would find the perfect recipient for this adorable cross stitch baby quilt, with cute little jungle animals on it. Little did I know, I would be able to do this project for our little one. 

I'm hoping to get started in the next week or so. We have a big wedding this weekend and will be extra busy. I'll be sure to post updates as I go. It will also be my motivation to finish my other in-progress cross stitch project, which I've been slowly plugging away on.

Deal of the Day

Today has been a blur of errands and Mother's Day crafting. I picked up my bridesmaid dress for the July wedding of two of our close friends - luckily it needs no alterations and it's beautiful. The bride was kind enough to let us all pick our own style dress, in a gorgeous Horizon blue. 

Of course, David's Bridal is so close to Joann Fabrics that I had no choice but to go in! Actually I needed some elastic ribbon but for anyone who knows me, I had to stop by the 50% off remnant bin. 

I found some adorable cotton monkey fabric, a green & blue light flannel checkered fabric, cotton blue vine fabric, shiny brown see-thru with turquoise flowers and a shiny black, purple and pink polyester blend with sequins. 

The friendly cashier even pointed out what good deals I got. For about $5.20, I purchased all this material - saving approximately $25.50 (regular prices). I told her "sometimes I buy fabric for a particular project and sometimes the fabric picks me." So while I'm not sure what I will be making with these pieces yet, I know I'll be happy to have them around.

Back to my Mother's Day gifts, I have a second coat of paint to work on and some hand scrub...

Crafty Weekend Plans

It should come as no surprise that my weekend crafting plans involve Mother's Day gifts! I will be attempting to make the following projects, hopefully with fabulous results. 

Since we usually buy plants for our mom's, I thought it would be fun to make a knock-off of these adorable planters from Amazon: 

These little guys are $120 but I'm guessing that with some chalkboard spray paint, a few inexpensive Terra-cotta planters and chalk - I should be able to make 2 for less than $12. 

And I've bought all the ingredients to make some yummy hand scrub too. Hopefully mine will come out half as cute as this jar by DIY Beauty. 

Lastly, I would like to bake something fun and special (if time should allow) but I'm not sure what yet...

Deal of the Day

I spent the day out and about since Bunch had some work to do and I need a few accessories for a personalized birthday present that I am working on. (I will pictures tomorrow - my deadline is Monday morning) While I was wandering around Joann's, I came across this nifty little sign for my craft room. 

It was all by itself in the back of the store, for only $1.97! I'm not sure if I will paint it a different color or add sparkly spray paint but I scooped it up. I love adding fun home decor finds to our home.

Babycakes Recommends: Wallies.com

The only thing I love more than finding a new source for craft supplies, is telling everyone I know about it. My latest discovery is Wallies.com - a division of McCall - that sells a wide variety of wallpaper cutouts, for crafts or fun decorations around the home. From their website:

"Easy to use and offered in a wide variety of styles, these pre-pasted, vinyl-coated wallpaper cutouts are a wonderful way to create great looking accessories and wall décor with just a little water and no artistic talent required. Put them on lamp shades, cabinets, ceramic tiles, tin waste baskets, gift boxes, and, of course walls."

I placed my first order at the beginning of the year and was so pleased with the products that I told my mother-in-law about the website the same day. She has since placed an order and checks back frequently. The sale items are beyond reasonable, with 25 wallpaper cutouts (3-5 inches each) for only $1.25!

The first project I tried was with one of my decoupage plates, in a lady bug fabric and a coordinating lady bug wall paper cutout.

In addition to the ladybugs, I also bought big green bows, moons & stars, lemons, country hearts - the list goes on and on.

Deal of the Day

Along with my love for crafts, I really enjoy finding new and interesting items to add to our home. Some of the best places to find home decor items are tag sales and consignment shops. As I've mentioned before, Bunch and I were married on Martha's Vineyard and we try to go back often. Last time we were there, we came across a White Elephant sale at a local church. I found these two adorable tins there for only 25 cents each!

These fun tins are perfect for keeping track of my small craft supplies or just for decoration. With the warm weather, it seems like the perfect weekend to bring these out for display.

I'm off to load up on supplies at Joann Fabrics and spend some quality time with my love. Hope you are enjoying your weekend, whatever you are doing!

Deal of the Day

While out today, picking up spray paint for another project for the house, I was in Home Depot and decided to check out the tiles for future coaster projects because I had so much fun with my first try. I came across these two iridescent tile mats, that were on clearance but no price was marked.

When I was at the register, the nice sales lady told me that they were only $0.51 each! I was happy to scoop this deal up so I can make coasters for summer time gifts or possibly for a frame project I have in mind...

I also discovered an interesting looking chair at the consignment store today, with a little spray paint and some TLC, two of my specialties, I think it will be the perfect addition to our living room. I'm hoping to work on that tomorrow (my goal is to post before and after shots) because our bedroom makeover starts soon and I'm not sure what I'll be able to get done once that starts!

Deal of the Day

On my shopping adventures today, I stopped into Michaels for a few last minute items for the craft fair next weekend and as always, I checked the clearance section for any items I might need to stock up on. I found a "Valentine's Day Grab Bag" for $2.00 and decided it would probably be worth it. I was right:

For those $2, I now have a full stock of bright, colorful pictures for craft use! There were 15 calendars in the bag, ranging from teacups to bees, lighthouses to country scenes. I can cut up some of the more colorful pictures to decoupage with or I could even keep some and frame them for decor.

One in particular has ladybugs, butterflies, and a number of other colorful drawings of cute little creatures. These could easily be mounted, with Modge Podge, on wood plaques or framed with scrap wood and used to bring some Spring-feeling to a craft room, entry way or kids room. This bunch of calendars will yield me plenty of projects that can all be done for only a few dollars each.
